Shanta Nicole Mumford was born on July 20, 1979, in Augusta, Georgia at MCG Hospital. She peacefully departed this life on March 20, 2026, at the age of 46.
Shanta was a proud graduate of Appling County High School, Class of 1998. She went on to work in Nuclear plants and at Hazlehurst Mills, where she dedicated herself diligently until her health declined due to Lupus, which ultimately rendered her disabled. Even in the face of illness, Shanta demonstrated remarkable strength, perseverance, and unwavering faith.
A devoted member of The Word International in Hazlehurst, Ga and most recently Greater Faith Temple COGIC II in Jesup, Ga, Shanta took her relationship with God seriously and was a source of encouragement to others in their spiritual walk. She found joy in helping the mothers of the church and serving wherever she was needed.
Shanta had a vibrant spirit and a heart full of love. She enjoyed interior decorating, styling hair, and most of all, caring for her family. Her children were her pride and joy, and she poured her love into them daily. She will be remembered as a woman who was full of life—caring, compassionate, and resilient beyond measure.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories her loving parents, Robert James Sherrod Sr. and Fronita Sherrod; her beloved children, Shakyla Nicole Mumford and Anthony Isaiah Mumford; her siblings, Tonya Ann Carr (Leon Carr), April Louise Sherrod, and Robert James Sherrod Jr. (Jasmine Sherrod); and her cherished nieces and nephews, Jamarcus Xavier Sherrod, Allison Marie Carr, Robert James Sherrod III, and Kiara Grace Sherrod, along with a host of extended family and dear friends.
Though she is no longer with us in the physical sense, her love, faith, and legacy will continue to live on in all who knew and loved her.
“Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions… I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.”
— John 14:1-3 (KJV)
