Richard Eddie Harris was born on February 21, 1944, in Polk County, Florida, to Rebecca Harris Arthur and John Harris, Jr. He grew up to graduate from high school in Miami, Florida, and went on to build a life defined by hard work, faith, and devotion to his family.
A master of his crafts, Richard was a highly skilled plumber and carpenter. He was also a devoted Christian and a faithful, active member of the Pentecostal Holiness Church in Brunswick, Georgia. Above all, he was a deeply loving husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, and friend.
An avid hunter and fisherman, Richard truly loved the outdoors. He was also an excellent cook who took joy in feeding those he loved. Among his many passions, cars held a special place in his heart—but for Richard, nothing beat the unmistakable roar of a ‘Stang. He could spot that sound over any noise, and it never failed to bring a smile to his face.
To know him was to love him. Affectionately known as the “Silver Fox,” Richard leaves behind a legacy of warmth, strength, and laughter. While he will be deeply missed, his family takes great comfort in knowing that he is now peacefully at rest.
Preceded in death by his mother, Rebecca Harris Arthur; his father, John Harris Jr.; siblings, Ernest Whitaker, Alfonso Arthur, George Arthur, John Arthur; a grandson, Andrew.
He leaves to cherish fond memories, his wife, Altamese Harris; his children, Sarah Harris, Letitia Harris Hutchinson (Michael), Richard Harris Jr., Melvin Harris, Michael Harris (Laura), Jasmine Newberry, De’Shone Collins, Tiphanie Clark; grandchildren, Keyana, Tavarius, Maurice, Tierra, Jayden, Ms. Ri’kya, Nasyah, Jaida, Journey, Melanie, Samyah, Gregory, Jacob, Mariela, Michael Jr., John-Michael, Cameron, Hernando, Cortney, Frashane, David, Ashunti, Jadarius.
