Nadeen McTier Sumner was born on May 16, 1937, in Baxley, Georgia, to the late Adel and Iris Sharpe McTier. A proud daughter of the McTier community, she attended and graduated on 1955 from the McTier Appling Training School, where her vibrant spirit was on full display as a basketball player and a majorette for the school band.
Following her marriage to Artie Sumner, they relocated to Buffalo, New York, where she built a life and community for over 50 years before returning to her cherished Georgia roots in 2009.
Others that preceded Nadeen in death are her children, Reginald Sumner, Kevin Sumner and Sharon Sumner; her bonus mother, Luella Brookins McTier; her siblings, Percival McTier, Alton McTier, Christine McTier Cruthird, Betty Brookins Moss, and Juanita Brookins Nails; and her great-granddaughter, Aniya Sumner and many in-laws.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Lanita (Rufus) McDuffie and Phrenoy (Mary) Sumner; her siblings Rebecca Odgen, Alberta Ryals, Adel McTier, Jr, John McTier, James McTier, Martha Crosby, Harry Brookins, Sampson Brookins, Gertrude Akinleye; 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and a multitude of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, family and sorrowing friends.
