Bishop Avery Jewel Myles, 95, released his earthly hold and took hold of God’s unchanging hand on May 11, 2026

Who Was He?

A rare, peculiar, unique man and extraordinary servant, cherished by many, whose life reflected the way of Christ.

Entrusted with a divine three-fold ministry, his sacred mission was to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ, strengthen and uplift communities, and inspire transformed lives through faith, compassion, and service.

With unwavering devotion, steadfast faithfulness, and tireless dedication, Bishop Myles labored daily to fulfill this sacred calling with unwavering diligence, steadfast faithfulness, and tireless devotion, faithfully building and strengthening the ministry God entrusted to his care.

Bishop Myles embodied dignity, integrity, and honor, leaving an enduring impression upon every life he touched and every path he journeyed.

He was born on May 24, 1930, to the late John and Daisy Myles. He was the fifth of eight children. He received his education through the Ware County School System, where the foundation for his lifelong wisdom, discipline, and devotion to service was first nurtured.

He worked as a bridge worker with CSX Railroad until his retirement in 1989.

He was saved at an early age. In 1947 and was called into the ministry of preaching the gospel at the age of 24. These years laid the foundation for the life and ministry of a humble servant.

Bishop Myles’ mentor was the late anointed Senior Bishop H.J. Echols, Senior Bishop Pastor of H.J. Echols Tabernacle First Born Church of the Living God, Inc. His first appointment as a pastor was in Homerville, Georgia.

He was a visionary, organizer, and teacher of God’s word. He was a much sought-after preacher, teacher, and one for building and starting churches for The First Born Church of the Living God, Inc.

He never claimed to have degrees or formal accomplishments. Bishop Myles humbly testified to the knowledge, wisdom, and understanding he received through the abundant grace of God.

He was dedicated to serving the ministry, his congregation, and the community in which he lived and pastored; always remember the scripture “And I will set up one shepherd over them, and he shall feed them. Ezekiel 34:23.

Bishop Myles pastored many churches. His longest Pastoral ship was between St. John First Born Church, in. Jesup, GA., and Bethel Temple First Born Church, Inc., Blackshear, GA. His Pastoralship lasted over 70 years.

His legacy of love, leadership, and spiritual excellence will continue to inspire generations to come.
