Ms. Barbara Ann Williams Thomas was born on March 14, 1947, to the late Frank and Tommie Williams. She was the youngest of twelve children, a bright light in a large, loving family. She departed this life on May 3, 2025, in Alma, Georgia, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and devotion.
Barbara was educated in the Appling County School System and proudly graduated from Appling County High School. She was known for her warm heart, her quiet strength, and above all, her deep love for her family—especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought her endless joy and purpose.
Barbara’s smile was unforgettable—a soft, knowing smile that could light up a room even on the darkest days. She smiled through heartache, through pain, and through loss. Even when life dealt her unimaginable grief, she carried herself with grace. Her smile was her strength—it was her way of saying, “I’m still standing,” no matter what she was facing. That smile became a source of comfort and courage for all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter Sharon Thomas, her son Jimmy Thomas Jr., six of her brothers, and three of her sisters.
She leaves to cherish her memory of her loving daughter, Marie Thomas of Pooler, GA, son in law Roby Johnson of Alston Ga and six devoted grandchildren: Brandon Thomas of Hinesville, GA; Brian Thomas of Baxley, GA; LaToya (Demeatrick) Moore of Baxley, GA; Ciera (Derrick) Stokes of Vidalia, GA; Jasmine (Julius) Garnes of Uvalda, GA; and Brandon Baker of Tampa, FL.
She is also survived by two loving brothers, Ronnell Williams of Savannah, GA, and Horace (Mamie) Williams of Philomath, GA. In addition, she leaves behind Atrerria Moore who was like a daughter; 27 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will forever carry her memory in their hearts.
Barbara’s life was a testament to resilience, grace, and unconditional love. Though she is no longer with us in body, her spirit lives on in each of us—in the stories we tell, the traditions we continue, and the love we share.
“For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.” — 1 Thessalonians 4:14 (KJV)
Rest peacefully, Grandma. Your legacy will never fade, and your smile will never be forgotten.
