Andrew Jackson Booth

Andrew Jackson Booth was born on July 15, 1942 to the late Major Ira Booth, Sr. and Bessie Lee Booth. He was the third of nine children born to this union and raised and reared in Patterson, GA. At just three years old, AJ—his affectionate nickname—was struck by a car, which resulted in him losing both his hearing and ability to speak. His parents were determined that AJ’s disability would not be a limitation; therefore, they enrolled him in the Georgia School for the Deaf in Cave Spring, GA. AJ attended school throughout the year and would return home during the summertime and for the holidays. When not in school, he would join his father and other siblings working on the farm. 

After completing school, AJ returned to Patterson and gained employment at Patterson Milling Company. He worked there until its closing. Afterward, AJ resumed doing farm work with Jack Sinclair. With his father’s passing in 1984, AJ ensured he stayed close to his mother. They lived together happily until her passing in 2004. His mother, a strong woman of faith, ensured that AJ’s disability did not exclude him from knowing the Lord. There was always a Bible at his bedside for him to read. He frequented St. James Missionary Baptist Church until finally joining and being baptized on September 14, 2003 by Pastor Jonathan W. Dixon, Sr. Though he never married or had any kids, AJ was a great uncle to all of his nieces and nephews. He was known for having a hearty laugh and a vibrant smile that exuded love to all. He loved to joke with friends and family. In his latter years, you could find him sitting in his favorite chair by the road waving at the cars going by. 

On Sunday, October 26, 2025, AJ heard the Lord’s call to come home and obediently answered. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, Major and Bessie Booth, three brothers: George Washington, Sr., Curly Booth, and Ira Booth, three sisters: Rosa Wright, Hester Grant, and Ora Booth Johnson. He leaves behind to cherish his memories two sisters: Patricia Wilson and Estella Ashley both of Patterson, GA, one sister-in-law, Rosa Booth of Patterson, GA, special family friend, Clifton Simon, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends
